Apple will release security updates earlier due to AI-related threats
Apple will release software security updates earlier.
This was reported by Reuters.
The company began releasing them earlier than major operating system updates due to the rise in cyber risks associated with artificial intelligence.
Why Apple is changing its release schedule
Apple explains that artificial intelligence has significantly accelerated the development of malicious hacking tools.
Because of this, the company had to adapt and shorten the time between discovering a problem, publicly announcing it, and the protective patch reaching users’ devices.
Previously Apple accumulated security fixes and released them together with major operating system updates.
How updates will be released now
Apple usually releases patches when moving from one iOS version to the next (for example, from the current 26.5 to the planned 26.6).
Between these releases, developers and testers usually check the upcoming version to eliminate any technical glitches and inaccuracies. The only exception was when cybersecurity specialists detected a hacking campaign that exploited a previously unknown system vulnerability.
Now, instead of waiting for the full 26.6 release, Apple is making a new round of security updates available to all users immediately, ahead of the broader software package.
Recall that Apple raised prices on a number of its devices, including the MacBook and iPad.
The company explained that they can no longer absorb the rising cost of components, primarily memory chips and storage drives, which have become more expensive due to the AI boom.
The CEO of «АСБІС-Україна», Ivan Pavlik, told AIN in a comment that many hardware and electronics manufacturers have already revised their prices.
According to him, there will be a not very long period between Apple’s announced price revision and the updating of prices in Ukraine.
