BlaBlaCar scales into 20 countries using AI. Where will the service operate next?

BlaBlaCar is entering markets in 20 countries across Europe, Latin America, Southeast Asia and North Africa using AI.

BlaBlaCar said this in a press release that is available to AIN.

This is the company’s largest international expansion in the past 10 years. The platform’s global presence will grow to 41 countries. For such a rapid launch the company used AI, which sped up localization of the service and scaling of operational activities. 

“Our model works because it reflects current economic realities. Just last year our drivers saved more than €568 million on travel costs. By expanding into 20 new markets, we are opening up substantial, previously unavailable saving opportunities to millions of travelers,” — commented Nicolas Brusson, CEO and co‑founder of BlaBlaCar.

New markets for BlaBlaCar

The expansion decision covers four geographic regions:

• Europe. The markets of Moldova, Bulgaria, Greece, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and North Macedonia.
• Latin America. After 10 years operating in Brazil, the company is now expanding its presence into neighboring countries, including Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay.
• Southeast Asia. Markets of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
• North Africa. The company is entering the African continent for the first time, starting with Morocco.

BlaBlaCar — a ridesharing platform founded in France in 2006. In 2014 BlaBlaCar entered the Ukrainian market by acquiring the Ukrainian ridesharing service Podorozhniki.com. After that deal the platform officially started operating in Ukraine.

Later the company acquired the platform Busfor, then the largest service for searching and purchasing bus tickets in Ukraine and countries of Central and Eastern Europe. 

In January 2025 BlaBlaCar completed the deal and acquired the Turkish bus service Obilet.

Recall, in March 2026 the company appointed a new CEO for Central and Eastern Europe. He became Roman Miroshnichenko, who previously was responsible for the platform’s business development in Ukraine.

In the new role he is responsible for business development across eight countries: Ukraine, Poland, Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia and Croatia.
