The US House of Representatives approved a bill to support Ukraine and sanctions against Russia
The US House of Representatives adopted the Ukraine Support Act — a comprehensive bipartisan bill aimed at supporting Ukraine.
This was announced by Ukraine’s ambassador to the US, Olha Stefanishyna.
The document covers security, sanctions, reconstruction and humanitarian support.
Details of the bill
The adopted Ukraine Support Act is a comprehensive document that covers several critically important areas of engagement. In particular, it includes:
- providing security assistance and extending the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI);
- allocating up to $8 billion in direct loans to Ukraine and NATO allies during 2026;
- support for Ukraine’s reconstruction processes;
- countering disinformation campaigns and protecting abducted Ukrainian children.
Strengthening sanctions pressure against Russia
The bill also contains a number of provisions intended to limit the Kremlin’s capabilities. New restrictions are aimed at key instruments of the Russian economy, including:
- the Russian financial sector;
- the energy sector;
- Russia’s ‘shadow fleet’;
- the state corporation «Росатом».
According to Stefanishyna, the House’s current decision will also enable further work on other bills that were initiated by members of both American parties and are currently awaiting consideration in Congress.
The next step for the Ukraine Support Act to become law is consideration and a vote on the bill in the US Senate.
Recall that the European Union is preparing the 21st sanctions package against Russia. It could be presented at the end of June or the beginning of July.
One of the main targets is the network of tankers in the shadow fleet that Russia uses to export oil to evade restrictions.
