NVIDIA and Universal Music Group to collaborate on music AI
Universal Music Group has signed an agreement with NVIDIA to implement a new artificial intelligence model in one of the world’s largest music catalogs, The Verge reports.
As part of the partnership, the companies will use the Music Flamingo AI model, developed by NVIDIA in collaboration with researchers at the University of Maryland.
This model is capable of processing tracks up to 15 minutes long.
How Music Flamingo works
Music Flamingo mimics human perception of music and can recognize song structure, harmony, emotional arcs, and chord progressions.
For listeners, this will change the way they search for music. Instead of the usual genres or playlists, songs can be found by emotional tone or “cultural resonance.”
Musicians will be able to use the model to analyze their own work, as well as to describe and distribute music with “unprecedented depth.”
In a joint statement, the companies emphasize that their goal is to avoid creating AI slop – low-quality, mass-generated content. To this end, a special “artist incubator” will be created to develop and test tools that put creators at the center of innovation.
