AI reviews without spoilers. Kindle has a new book summaries feature
Amazon has begun implementing a new AI-based feature in Kindle called Ask this Book, which helps readers understand the plot and characters without spoilers, Engadget reports.
The feature is currently available to Kindle users on iOS in the US and works with thousands of English-language bestsellers. The AI assistant can answer questions about events, characters, or plot details, but only within the scope of the part of the book that has already been read.
According to Amazon, the system “only reveals information up to the current reading position,” so it does not spoil the impression of the rest of the plot.
To use Ask this Book, readers simply select a passage in a purchased or borrowed book and ask a question. The assistant provides a contextual answer and allows follow-up questions.
At the same time, the innovation has sparked controversy in the publishing community. Amazon has confirmed that authors and publishers cannot opt out of using this feature in their books. According to a company representative, this is done “to ensure a consistent reading experience,” and there is no option to disable AI.
Amazon has already announced that Ask this Book will be available on Kindle devices and in the Android app in 2026. At the same time, the company is developing another AI feature, Recaps, which briefly summarizes previous parts of a book series.
