Starlink’s competitor. Blue Origin announces the launch of a new satellite network, TeraWave

Blue Origin has unveiled a new satellite communications network called TeraWave, with speeds of up to six Tbit/s, Blue Origin reports.

The TeraWave architecture will have 5,408 satellites in low and medium Earth orbits.

The network will provide high-speed channels and multi-gigabit connections for users, particularly in remote and sparsely populated regions where laying fiber-optic networks is difficult or expensive.

  • According to the company, the system will provide connections of up to 144 Gbit/s via wireless channels.

  • Separately, there are plans to launch another 128 satellites into medium Earth orbit, which will support connections at speeds of up to six Tbit/s.

The network will serve as a solution for data centers, government agencies, and global companies that require symmetrical upload and download speeds, channel reservation, and rapid scaling.

The deployment of TeraWave satellites is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027.

TeraWave’s competitor, Starlink, has nearly 10,000 satellites.
