
Users spent $3 billion in the ChatGPT mobile app
Total user spending on the ChatGPT mobile app has reached $3 billion.
According to TechCrunch, this figure takes into account total spending on iOS and Android devices since the app’s launch in May 2023.
The highest user activity was recorded this year. In 2025, consumers spent approximately $2.48 billion on the app, which is 408% more than in 2024 ($487 million).
For comparison, in its first year of operation (2023), the app earned $42.9 million.
ChatGPT’s financial growth rate is ahead of some of the world’s most popular services:
- It took ChatGPT 31 months to reach $3 billion;
- TikTok took 58 months to reach this figure;
- Disney+ took 42 months;
- HBO Max took 46 months.
Among other AI competitors, Elon Musk’s Grok has the trajectory closest to ChatGPT. When comparing spending rates from the start of monetization, Grok has similar indicators.
How ChatGPT makes money
The main source of income for the mobile app is paid subscriptions, such as ChatGPT Plus ($20/month) and ChatGPT Pro ($200/month).
In addition, the company has launched its own app store, which may also become a source of revenue in the future.
