$6.5 million for the development of underwater drones. UA1 invested in Y Combinator alumni Albacore

American startup Albacore, which completed this year’s Y Combinator program, announced that it had raised $6.5 million in investments, UA1 reportes.

  • The round was led by Outlander VC, and investors included Ukraine’s UA1, as well as Brave Capital, D3, Alumni Ventures, BoxGroup, Karman Ventures, Pioneer Fund, Heliad, and 468 Capital.

  • Albacore develops long-endurance unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs). Its first product is Ghostfin, an autonomous mini-submarine about 2.5 meters long and weighing 180 kg, capable of carrying up to 110 kg of payload.

  • It can be launched from virtually any location and has a range of up to 1,000 nautical miles. The company is headed by Dante Weisbort and John Huddleston, who have experience in unmanned systems and defense technology projects. The team consists of 17 employees.

According to the founders, investor interest is driven by three factors: growing demand for autonomous systems in the military sector, a limited number of players in the underwater technology market, and Albacore’s focus on long-range strike drones.

The Ghostfin prototype has already undergone testing in water with kinetic loads. A demonstration of the device for the US Department of Defense is scheduled for January 2026, as well as at the Balikatan military exercises in the Philippines.

Serial production is planned to start in mid-2026.
