The Green Deal aims at “fighting climate change, protecting nature, making our economy sustainable and leave nobody behind. Because if this is not a social Green Deal, it will not be a successful Green Deal.” said Frans Timmerman, executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal.
The objective is to make Europe “the first climate neutral continent in the World by 2050” claimed Ursula Von der Layen. It includes a series of measures together with key policies to put words into action, 50 actions in total.
Here are the key principles:
- prioritise energy efficiency and develop a power sector based largely on renewable sources;
- secure and affordable EU energy supply;
- fully integrated, interconnected and digitalised EU energy market.
