OpenAI launches an app catalog within ChatGPT
OpenAI has officially announced the launch of an app catalog, which is now available directly in the ChatGPT interface for iOS, Android, and the web version.
How it works
The new section allows users to integrate AI with popular external services to perform specific tasks. Instead of simply generating text, ChatGPT can now “act”: order products, create presentations, or search for housing.
-
After connecting the application, the user can call it up in the chat by simply entering the @ symbol.
-
The apps are divided into three main groups: “Functions,” “Lifestyle,” and “Productivity.”
-
Previously known as “connectors” (for example, for Google Drive), they are now officially called simply “apps.”
Available services and new features
-
Among the first partners whose apps are already available in the catalog are Booking.com, Spotify, Dropbox, Google Drive, and DoorDash.
-
Apple Music allows you to search for music, manage your media library, and create playlists via a chat interface.
-
Through Dropbox, users can analyze local data, prepare briefings, and summarize internal reports.
-
DoorDash allows you to transform recipes or meal plans directly into a grocery shopping cart.
Information for developers and monetization
OpenAI has also opened applications for the publication of third-party applications. To support developers, the company has released an SDK, a UI library, and step-by-step instructions.
On the financial side, developers can currently only monetize their products by redirecting users to their own websites or native applications. However, OpenAI has indicated that it is already exploring options for implementing internal monetization in the future.
