Six brown bear cubs were born in the Catalan Pyrenees in 2017, thanks in part to the actions of the PirosLIFE project. This took the total brown bear (Ursus arctos) in the Pyrenees to around 45 individuals – offering a real lifeline to Europe’s largest surviving large carnivore in this area of Spain and France.
