Germany’s NEURA Robotics shows no signs of slowing down as it teams up with Austria’s NXAI for physical AI

Following last week’s announcement that Germany’s NEURA Robotics would be launching its multimodal foundation for physical AI, today the company confirmed that it would be working with Austria’s NXAI on a building block for the memory of cognitive robots.

To this end, the partners are combining NEURA’s Physical AI stack with xLSTM, a recurrent architecture from NXAI that can efficiently maintain and update state over long sequences. Furthermore, NXAI plans to make its own model, based on the xLSTM architecture, available on the Neuraverse platform.

It is set to be available alongside NEURA’s own foundation model, Neuron AI, in future.

“A robot that truly helps in everyday life and in industry must be able to remember,” says David Reger, founder and CEO of NEURA Robotics. “With Neuron AI, we have the foundation. With Neuraverse, we are creating the platform on which other powerful AI approaches can also find their way into robots. Together with Sepp Hochreiter and NXAI, we are expanding this memory capability. Two European strengths, one goal: Physical AI from Europe, together for the world.”

This follows a period of sustained growth for the Metzingen-based robotics unicorn.

As previously reported by EU-Startups, NEURA secured €15 million from InterAlpen Partners in 2023, following a €52 million round earlier that year. By September 2024, the company had reportedly raised €148.67 million in total, before securing a further €120 million Series B in January 2025. At the time, NEURA reported having doubled its workforce to more than 300 employees and increased its revenue tenfold over the preceding year.

This was followed by the announcement of a Series C of up to €1.2 billion in June 2026, and subsequently by acquisitions involving mobile logistics and autonomous cleaning robotics compamy Adlatus Robotics, extending its capabilities and the potential applications of its Neuraverse ecosystem.

“Memory and experience are essential for robots to reliably solve tasks involving many steps,” says Prof. Dr Sepp Hochreiter, founder of NXAI. “xLSTM is built for this; it is fast, memory-efficient and can maintain its state over long sequences. Together with NEURA, we are bringing this strength to Physical AI – from Europe for the world.”

Today’s news brings two companies that already share many touch-points even closer together.

Founded in 2019, Neura develops the technologies that enable intelligent machines to learn, adapt and work side by side with humans in the real world. The company develops cognitive robots that can see, hear, feel and learn, as well as the software, AI and data infrastructure required for their large-scale deployment.

Founded in 2023, NXAI is an Austrian DeepTech company based in Linz that develops solutions for industrial applications. The company’s mission is to translate its own AI research into market-ready products and to bridge the gap between research and industry. Its research focuses on xLSTM models in the fields of time series and robotics.

The planned integration between the two is intended to enable companies to tailor the NXAI model to their own tasks using the Neuraverse toolchain, test it in the NEURA Gyms and deploy it on suitable robots. This will allow customers to utilise different model approaches within the same training and application environment.

Neuron AI remains NEURA’s own multimodal foundation model and will continue to be developed independently. The partnership brings an additional model option to the platform and includes joint research. Companies retain control over their process knowledge and decide for themselves whether to share data and capabilities.

NEURA contributes the Physical AI Stack: its own multimodal foundation models, robotics, sensor technology, real-world training data from the NEURA Gyms, and the platform for industrial deployment. NXAI brings decades of AI research and a fundamentally different approach to recurrent intelligence and memory. Together, the two aim to make capabilities available more quickly.

In the long term, the aim is for robots not only to perform individual tasks, but to build on their experience over time. This aligns with the vision of the Neuraverse and the Robot Skill Economy: skills that robots learn from interacting with the real world, improve upon, and transfer to other machines and environments.

Editor’s Note: Albert Ortig, CEO of NXAI, will be speaking at the MeOut Summit (November 25-26) – co-organised by EU-Startups.
