Avatar: Fire and Ash grossed $1 billion in nearly three weeks
James Cameron’s film Avatar: Fire and Ash grossed $1 billion at the global box office in 18 days after its release, Variety reports.
The third part of the franchise reached the billion-dollar mark slightly slower than its predecessors.
For comparison, Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) grossed $1 billion in 14 days, and Avatar (2009) in 17 days. Both previous films went on to become some of the highest-grossing films in history, earning $1.6 billion and $2.1 billion, respectively.
The film’s success will depend on foreign audiences. Currently, the leaders in foreign box office receipts are:
-
China — $138 million;
-
France — $81 million;
-
Germany — $64 million;
-
Korea — $44 million.
Avatar: Fire and Ash became Disney’s third release in 2025 to gross over a billion, joining Lilo & Stitch and Zootopia 2.
According to Variety, this made it a record year for the studio, as the company’s global revenue exceeded $6.58 billion for the first time since the pandemic.
The company was accused of violating federal laws on collecting children’s data by mislabeling videos on YouTube.
This allowed Disney and its partners to run targeted ads aimed at minors and illegally collect their personal information without parental consent.
This is a direct violation of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), passed in 1998.
