Anthropic to raise Claude limits after SpaceX compute deal

Anthropic announced a partnership with SpaceX. Under it, it will gain access to the compute capacity of the Colossus 1 data center and double the usage limits for Claude Code for paid users.

This was reported by Engadget.

The company said the changes take effect immediately for Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans.

Anthropic also:

  • doubles the five-hour usage limits for Claude Code;
  • removes “peak hour” restrictions for Pro and Max users;
  • significantly increases API limits for Claude Opus models.

According to the company, this was made possible by new agreements for access to compute resources.

Agreement with SpaceX and the Colossus 1 data center

Anthropic said it had signed an agreement with SpaceX to use all compute capacity of the Colossus 1 data center.

According to the official statement, the company will receive over 300 megawatts of new capacity within a month. That amounts to more than 220,000 GPUs from NVIDIA.

Anthropic said the additional resources will directly affect operational stability for Claude Pro and Claude Max users.

The companies also reported interest in jointly developing “orbital AI-compute” capacity of several gigawatts. Earlier, SpaceX filed documents with the US Federal Communications Commission regarding the launch of up to a million satellites to create an orbital data center.

Other Anthropic partners

In its statement Anthropic also mentioned other major agreements on AI infrastructure:

  • up to 5 GW of capacity in partnership with Amazon;
  • 5 GW in collaboration with Google and Broadcom;
  • a partnership with Microsoft and NVIDIA for $30 billion of Azure capacity;
  • a $50 billion investment in US AI infrastructure together with Fluidstack.

Reaction from Elon Musk

The Anthropic–SpaceX collaboration comes against a backdrop of criticism of Anthropic by Elon Musk.

Earlier the founder of SpaceX had called the company “misanthropic and evil” and criticized Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. At the same time, after the announcement he wrote on X that he was “impressed with the Anthropic team” and suggested that Claude “will probably be a good product.”

Musk also added that SpaceX “reserves the right to reclaim compute resources” if Anthropic’s AI “harms humanity.”
