Strengthening the air shield: Ukrainian air defense developments are integrated with NASAMS
Ukrainian state-owned concern Ukroboronprom and the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace (KDA) have agreed to cooperate to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. This includes the integration of Ukrainian short- and medium-range air defense systems into the infrastructure of NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems.
According to the agreements reached, Ukrainian developments will work together with Norwegian command and control modules. This includes both existing and future developments.
This decision was preceded by preliminary negotiations, during which KDA representatives studied the production, scientific and technical capabilities of Ukrainian enterprises.
Ukroboronprom Director General Oleh Hulyak noted that cooperation with Norwegian partners will help strengthen the air shield capable of protecting strategic facilities and civilian infrastructure.
Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of weapons, including NASAMS systems. The company recently opened a representative office in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian military received the first NASAMS air defense systems in November 2022. In the first five months of operation, Ukrainian anti-aircraft gunners destroyed more than a hundred missiles and drones with their help.
