The US will provide Ukraine with intelligence data for strikes deep inside Russia. What is known?
The United States has decided to provide Ukraine with intelligence on energy infrastructure targets inside Russia, including oil refineries, pipelines, and power plants.
This was reported by Reuters, citing two US officials.
At the same time, Washington has called on its NATO allies to share similar data in order to strengthen Ukraine’s ability to strike at key sources of revenue for the Kremlin.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the decision was the first policy change by Donald Trump’s administration after he recently stepped up his anti-Russian rhetoric.
As Reuters notes, last year the US provided Kyiv with intelligence for defensive operations, but now, for the first time, it has been allowed to use it for strikes deep inside Russian territory.
The goal is to deprive Moscow of oil and gas export revenues, which remain the main source of funding for the war.
In addition, the US is considering Ukraine’s request for Tomahawk cruise missiles with a range of up to 2,500 km, capable of reaching Moscow and most regions of European Russia.
Russia has responded to this. Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, said that possible Tomahawk deliveries “will not change the situation on the battlefield.” At the same time, he called Trump “a politician of a special kind who seeks quick solutions where they do not work.”
On September 23, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump met in New York after the UN General Assembly meeting. After that, the US president wrote on his social network Truth Social that with the support of the European Union, Ukraine is capable of regaining all occupied territories.
The American president called Russia a “paper tiger” and emphasized that when Russians learn “the whole truth about what is really happening with this war,” are unable to buy gasoline due to long queues, and that “most of their money is spent on the war,” Ukraine “will be able to return to its original state” and even “go further.”
