SuperGround Oy, a Finnish food technology company, has raised an additional €1.15 million, extending its earlier €2.5 million funding round. The round was led by CHECK24 Impact and Propeller Ventures.

About SuperGround

  • SuperGround, established in 2021, has patented a unique technology that fully utilizes fish in the food industry, addressing the issue of up to 70% of caught or farmed fish currently being wasted as feed or fertilizer.

  • This innovative solution promotes a sustainable food system and can also be applied to poultry industry side streams, increasing its versatility and scalability across various food industry sectors.

Earlier this year, SuperGround has secured €2.5 million in funding from Hatch Blue Revolution Fund.

“Investors are looking for cost-competitive, scalable food innovations, and that’s exactly what we deliver. With Hatch Blue, CHECK24 Impact and Propeller Ventures leading this round, we are in a strong position to accelerate growth across the Nordics and beyond, starting with our new partnership with Ocean Next,” said Jaakko Kaminen, CEO of SuperGround.

Investment details

  • The round was led by CHECK24 Impact, the venture capital arm of Germany’s largest price comparison portal, CHECK24. Based in Munich, it focuses on investing in sustainable innovations within the agriculture and food sectors, specifically targeting foodtech and agtech startups.

  • Propeller Ventures co-lead this round. Propeller Ventures is a venture capital firm based in Boston, focused on early-stage investments in ocean-climate innovation.

  • In parallel, SuperGround is launching its partnership with Sweden’s Ocean Next AB to commercialize several new seafood products across the Nordics. Ocean Next will drive commercialization with production in Falkenberg, leveraging Korshags Food AB’s expertise in premium blue food.

SuperGround will use fresh funding to scale its operations, commercialize new seafood products with Ocean Next, and expand across the Nordics.
