Estonian greentech Stargate Hydrogen secures strategic investment from Spanish Repsol to boost green hydrogen production

Stargate Hydrogen, a European innovator specializing in the next-generation of alkaline electrolysers for the efficient and cost-effective green hydrogen production, has received a strategic investment from Repsol, a global integrated energy group headquartered in Spain, which acquired a minority stake in the company.

• Stargate Hydrogen is a company operating in the field of sustainable energy, focused on the development of green hydrogen production technologies. Its main area of expertise is ceramic-based electrolysis systems. 

• The company is one of the electrolyser manufacturers recognized under the Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) initiative, which supports the development of hydrogen technologies in Europe. Stargate’s clients include Fortum, Utilitas, ABB, and other organizations across Europe, Turkey, the Middle East, and India.

Investment details 

Stargate Hydrogen has entered into an alliance with Repsol, as part of which Repsol’s Corporate Venture arm acquired a minority stake in Stargate Hydrogen’s share capital

• Repsol is a Spanish energy company operating in over 20 countries. Its business includes oil and gas exploration, refining, fuel and chemical production, as well as low-carbon energy development.

• The company is actively investing in energy transition, focusing on renewables, biofuels, and hydrogen

Earlier in 2025, Stargate Hydrogen secured an 11 million EUR A-round and inaugurated its new factory. 

According to the company, the incorporation of Repsol as an industry partner reinforces this momentum and will enable the expansion of its manufacturing capacity, accelerate research and development initiatives, and strengthen its commercial operations across Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
