Samsung forecasts highest profits in three years as demand for AI drives up chip prices
Analysts expect Samsung Electronics to report operating profit of 10.1 trillion won ($7.11 billion) for the third quarter of 2025, which would be the highest figure for Q3 since 2022, Reuters reports.
-
Demand for memory, especially from large data centers and AI projects such as ChatGPT, has increased the load on conventional servers and raised DRAM chip prices by 171.8% compared to last year.
-
At the same time, delays in the supply of new Samsung HBM chips for Nvidia are slightly holding back the company’s profits, and dependence on China is limiting sales expansion due to US restrictions on advanced technologies.
-
Despite this, deals with major customers such as OpenAI and Tesla are creating positive expectations for future chip manufacturing contracts. Samsung could benefit from growing demand for AI chips, although risks remain related to US tariffs and restrictions on rare earth exports from China.
The company will publish its full financial results at the end of October, with preliminary data for the quarter expected on October 14.
