Discord reported a data leak: up to 70,000 users may have been affected
Discord reported that approximately 70,000 users may have been affected by a personal data leak.
This was reported to The Verge by company representative Nu Wexler.
-
The incident did not occur at Discord itself, but at Zendesk, which the company uses to process user requests. The hacker group claimed to have 1.5 TB of photos related to age verification and is attempting to blackmail Discord by demanding a ransom.
-
The company refuted these claims, calling the figures exaggerated and part of an attempt at blackmail.
-
Discord confirmed that all affected users have already been notified and that cooperation with the compromised supplier has been terminated.
Last week, Discord also reported that names, logins, email addresses, the last four digits of bank cards, and users’ IP addresses may have been compromised as a result of the incident.
Discord is currently working with law enforcement and cybersecurity experts to minimize the impact of the leak. At the same time, the platform serves not only as a gaming server but also as a government tool: it was previously reported that young people in Nepal chose their next prime minister through the platform.
