The role of cities and regions in the COVID-19 recovery and the need to make it a key driver to accelerate the green transition have been the focus of a debate with Kadri Simson, EU Commissioner for energy. Members of the Commission for the Environment, Climate Change and Energy of the European Committee of the Regions reiterated the need to involve local and regional authorities in the definition and implementation of priority investments, including the Next Generation EU fund and the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). The Renovation Wave for buildings, biodiversity, circular economy, and climate adaptation were also on the agenda.
