Apple will pay Google $1B annually for using Gemini

Apple is preparing to sign a deal with Google worth approximately $1 billion annually to use Gemini to update Siri, Bloomberg reports.

Apple will gain access to the Gemini model with 1.2 trillion parameters. This is the most powerful AI system, which significantly exceeds the capabilities of Apple’s current AI models.

Gemini will be responsible for Siri’s key functions — summarizer and planner, which are responsible for summarizing data and planning the execution of complex tasks.

Some of the functions will remain based on Apple’s own models.

The AI model will run on Apple Private Cloud Compute servers. This should ensure that user data is isolated from Google’s infrastructure. At the same time, the company has already allocated hardware resources to support this process.

Apple sees its collaboration with Google as a temporary solution until its own Apple Intelligence AI models reach the required level.

The company is working on its own cloud model, which it plans to launch for users next year.
