Apple plans to create its own AI search engine for Siri — it may be based on Google Gemini
Apple Inc. plans to launch its own AI-powered search tool based on Google’s Gemini technology next year, Bloomberg reports, citing informed sources.
This move will intensify competition with giants such as OpenAI and Perplexity AI Inc.
A new stage for Siri
The development has the internal name World Knowledge Answers and is considered by Apple as an answer engine — a system that will collect answers from the internet, similar to ChatGPT, AI Overviews in Google Search, and new AI applications. In the future, the feature is planned to be added to the Safari browser and Spotlight on the iPhone.
The updated Siri will be able to work with text, photos, videos, and local data, as well as offer AI summaries of search results. This will be part of a major redesign of the voice assistant that users have been waiting for a long time.
The new Siri is expected to be available in spring 2026 as part of the iOS 26.4 update (internal name — Luck E).
Apple is also preparing a visual redesign of Siri and a separate AI agent for health, which is planned to be integrated into a paid subscription starting in 2026.
Collaboration with Google
Part of the core technology for the new Siri may be provided by Google, Apple’s long-time partner in the field of Internet search. This week, the companies signed an official agreement under which Apple will test Google’s AI model for its voice assistant.
Apple also considered other options, including Anthropic Claude, but chose to collaborate with Google because of more favorable terms.
