Research Headlines – Next-generation optical networks: more with less

Part of tomorrow’s optical transmission networks may no longer require repeaters to boost the signal every 60 km or so. An EU-funded project has identified cost-effective ways to increase the capacity of optical networks using unrepeatered links, a potential boost to industry’s competitiveness.
